Every Christian is called to share The Gospel: We are to share its message with others. One way God uses to spread the gospel is through the local church. As part of that Outreach Vision, the local church uses Sunday school or Children’s Ministry to reach the children.
The local church then appoints a steward to lead this work. That is you the Superintendent.
As a Superintendent it’s your responsibility to head up and lead your team of children’s workers to fulfil the vision and mission of the church.
Part of your responsibility is to guard and oversee the resources God has placed under your leadership.
Those Resources are the things that you must account for and they are:
Finances:
Every believer is a steward of their personal finances, but as a Ministry Leader you are also a steward over those funds assigned to your department and are accountable for the wise use of these funds.
Spiritual Gifts:
Each believer has at least one spiritual gift for which they are responsible. As the Superintendent you are also responsible to help teachers in your team to develop their spiritual gifts. As you nurture and develop their gifts, they in turn will be able to develop and nurture the gifts God has placed within the boys and girls they disciple.
Other Believers: If you are a leader, you are responsible for other people. This does not stop at your teachers but includes the parents, children and other members of the congregation. You must help them to mature spiritually and get them involved in the work of the ministry. By sharing your ministry with them, you help them to be part of your team. Encourage folk to use their gifts in some way within the body of Christ. God uses people, not programs, to build His Kingdom.
Material Resources of Ministry:
These include things such as church buildings, property, and sunday school equipment. Train your teachers and the children to take ownership of those items that they have the use of.
Being a Superintendent is a Management position and involves getting things done for God through people. You don’t do it all your self.
The first message from God to man was on the subject of management where God told Adam and Eve:
“…Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it…and have dominion over…every living thing that moves upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:28)
Three important tasks of managers are contained in this verse:
1. Maximise resources by “multiplying” to accomplish God’s purpose and plans.
2. Minimise disorder by “subduing.”
3. Maintain order by “ruling” (dominion).
God does not consider stewards or Superintendents successful because of their education, natural ability, or personality. They are successful because of their faithfulness in doing their Job.
Remember no matter how things are going in your Ministry, God is the one who called you, man only appointed you in confirmation of the calling God has placed in your life. Remember God through His Holy Spirit is always with you.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go”(Joshua 1:9, NIV)
